Which tales game should i play first

Tales of Destiny was released in and remains one of the most beloved entries in the series. Despite being a follow-up to Tales of Phantasia, it was the first Tales game to get a western release. What it lacked in originality it made up for this with great characters.

Even by today's standards Tales of Destiny excels in its character development. Additionally, the combat system was an improvement over its predecessor and holds up better as a result.

It was remade for the PS2 but this version didn't make it to the West. In terms of story and characterization, the Tales fans will find Tales of Graces is very formulaic. Its narrative doesn't have much in the way of twists or surprises but the execution and presentation are fantastic. Furthermore, Graces f has one of the best combat systems in the series.

It's easy to pick up for new players. The variety of fighting styles, dodges, counter attacks, and strategic battles add a layer of depth that's very rewarding. A hit for fans on the PS3, Tales of Xillia shook up the formula by offering two protagonists to choose from.

Once again, character development is at the forefront of this title with the leads Jude and Milla getting their chance to shine. A single playthrough as one character can last around 40 hours. However, a second playthrough as the other protagonist adds more longevity. Additionally, its direct sequel Tales of Xillia 2 continued to build on and develop the world of Xillia. Instead of linear movements on the battlefield, characters can move freely in the arena. However, Abyss shines through its character development and complex but solid world-building.

The protagonist is Luke, and much of the story develops around his growth from an unlikeable spoilt rich kid into a heroic warrior. It's coming of age story where the audience grows with the characters along their journey. User Info: InfinityOver0. Zesteria is tied with star ocean 5 as the most disappointing PS4 game I've ever played. I'd skip it entirely, just play vesperia and then if there's time, berseria because I hear its decent but after zesteria I probably won't touch another new tales game either I'm Mr Meeseeks, look at me!

Zesteria should have never existed. It's complete garbage. I'm sad Star Ocean is in limbo now. User Info: MeteoraXV. User Info: nedmo More topics from this board Which game should I play next? Because u dont have anyone to play it with? How do i fix Unrecognized Disc on PS4?

While searching for his professor, medical student Jude Mathis stumbles upon a military research facility with a weapon of mass destruction called the Lance of Kresnik.

Mathis, after being found in the facility, is saved by Milla Maxwell. After destroying the weapon, you choose to play as either Milla or Jude as they run from the officials behind the Lance of Kresnik. Tales of Destiny was the first title in the series to get a North American release. To say Tales of Destiny was overshadowed would be an understatement. Still, Tales of Destiny remains one of the better titles in the Tales series. It even received a full remake on the PS2, though it was only released in Japan.

There are some interesting story beats, but the overall plot is a bit stale. That said, it integrates with the gameplay perfectly. Powerful as he is, Sorey can see members of a spirit race known as Seraphim. These god-like beings are a core plot element, but also a core gameplay element.

You can call upon Seraphim during battles to perform long-distances artes, and Sorey can even combine with Seraphim to unlock an entirely new move set. Tales of Xillia 2 directly follows the events of the first game, though you take control of a different protagonist. Ludger Krenik, the silent character you play as, can travel between parallel dimensions to keep the world he calls home in balance.

Xillia 2 also offers an extended look at the cast of characters in the first game. The expanded take on the story is a little too expanded, though. The game sags a lot in the midsection, with a lot of backtracking and fetch quests. Still, Xillia 2 features the same combat system as the first game, with an interesting overall plotline. Tales of Phantasia is the first game in the series, originally released as a Japan exclusive for the Super Famicom in Upon its release, Phantasia was praised for its unique take on combat, breaking from the tradition of turn-based battles in favor of a fast and fluid real-time battle system.

They were good for their time. A lot of their story and characters are so simplistic. I'm saying what's good now. Seems like what above poster suggested are safe bets though. Personally for me though, Berseria has more adult themes, there's "good guys" that aren't so good, and "bad guys" who aren't so bad. That reflects more of reality rather than some of the older more "childish" games if you will that have such simplistic themes that are overly idealistic.

Abyss, then Vesperia. Zesteria doesn't seem too bad either, but you'll need mods to make it look and run better because it has a capped 30FPS. Assuming you only own a PC, then Tales of Berseria is the best place to start. Originally posted by korytoombs :. Eze View Profile View Posts. Last edited by Eze ; 25 Nov, pm.
