What do groomers at petco make
My salon manager was verbally and emotionally abusive, neglectful when it came to training us pushing us through the program when we werent ready , and all of my coworkers were catty and pitted against eachother because of the biases that developed. If that had continued, I would have quit years ago. I'm sure some petco salons are like this still. I'm lucky that mine was so positive and enjoyable. However, upper management at district and corporate level is completely disconnected from the reality of what our jobs entail and what is reasonable and possible for us.
They expect ridiculous numbers, and a very high level of customer engagement, which don't really coincide. In order to do - more I love working at petco. The environment is very fun and you form a close bond with your coworkers. If you're not a fast paced worker this job probably isn't for you though.
The more productive you are the more money you make so its the perfect job for people who like to stay busy at work. Who wouldn't want too work with a bunch of cute doggies and kitties all day though!
Pros Pay and benefits. Cons Job is hard on your body. Cons Work your butt off. Standard retail. Management doesn't care about the well being of employees, neither do the higher ups. I wasted so many years there in different departments hoping to find better job compensation and fulfillment. Eventually I needed to leave because it was killing my soul. This type of job should really only be used in the short term when you need a little extra money for something.
Not worth building a career for. I worked for Petco for almost 2 years. When I asked for a raise they told me no and to focus on making commission. All of management is white. Working for a corporation is never ideal but these people will expect you to break your back for min wage. Petco was good for a consistent schedule and for paid time off. They also paid groomers by the hour under certain circumstances. Having said that, they demanded things like selling dog training classes or you would be in trouble, you could never leave early even if there weren't appointments made for your entire shift.
For the store i worked in i accrued a lot of pto time because it was never convenient for me too take it. When i did and came back 2 days later i was let go because i wasn't sacrificing for the team.
The compensation has changed since I was there, so groomers are actually making money now. Floor management usually sucks and is per average. Great management is a huge part of why I love it there. I'm in the grooming salon and the management storeside doesnt interfere with what has to be done but will help if needed. The Petco I worked at was fantastic! I was a dog groomer at my store in Stafford, Virginia and the store crew worked so well together.
The Store Manager at the time was the most professional, hard working and supportive manager I have ever had! The grooming crew worked well together and supported each other as well. My Salon Manager and I are still good friends even though I had to leave the job 2 years ago to move out of state. I always hope any future jobs will have a store team like this! Pros Schedule flexibility, decent pay with good benefits , fun work atmosphere.
Cons This location at the time 2 years ago wasnt busy enough for me to make much commission, We had a lot of competition move into the area over the years. More reviews from Pet Groomer. Productive Job. Was excited at first. Trained at the Denton Location. Everyone was super sweet. I had problems with a manager from my home location. No names needed.
Good place to start, but not to stay. I would like to preface that personality and culture of the workplace is going to vary wildly due to the different personalities of management and coworkers. Also, I had the unique experience that my Pet Stylist training started right when the pandemic was starting to affect the US, so I am going to avoid talking about it in the review.
I do want to say that it did give me a solid foundation to start dog grooming. PetCo was my first job as a dog groomer, so I am not sure how much of the experience there will be similar to other grooming companies. The coworkers at my store were one of the best parts of the job. The groomers there were supportive and help me improve in so many different ways.
We went through some changes in management, but the one who was there the longest when I was working did great at keeping communication open and keeping the store running. The customers vary so much, as do the dogs. Research Reports. Payscale Index Track and compare wage-growth by city, industry, company size, and job category.
